Hosting/Domains:

What is web hosting?

Sites In A Click not only helps you build a professional website, but we provide hosting services as well. What this means to you is we provide the infrastructure required to make your website available to your customers and potential customers. This includes the hardware, software and communications lines required by a web server. The content (your web page) on the server is controlled by you. It's like renting space on a billboard. The billboard company provides you with the billboard for a fee and you provide the information that goes on the billboard.   Top

What is a web address (aka: domain name)?

Think of your web address as you would your street address only with the advantages of using an easy to remember, unique identifier such as your company name or the nature of your business. Your web address is like the sign on your front door, all your customers have to do is type in the domain name and they have opened the door to your business. For example, our web address/domain name is sitesinaclick.com. It says it all. What we do and what we are called.

In more technical terms, a web address is the official name of a computer connected to the Internet. Computers use Internet Protocol (IP) number to locate each other on the Internet. People use domain names because they are a lot easier to remember than a series of numbers. The domain name system (DNS) refers to the database system that looks up host IP addresses based upon these domain names.   Top

What is the difference between .com, .org, .info, etc.?

Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top-level domain (TLD) it belongs to. A TLD is simply a way to differentiate domain names. Sites In A Click allows you to register a domain in one of the following TLDs: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, or .name.

In general, domains under all TLDs can be purchased for any use. However, there are some exceptions to this:

.biz

Can only be used for a bona fide business or commercial use.

.us

Can only be used by entities with a bona fide presence in the United States.

.name

Intended for individuals (firstname.lastname.name)   Top

Do I need to get a web address?

After you begin building your website with Sites In A Click website builder, you will be given three options on how you can host your new website:

1)

Register a new domain: With this option you will be able to register your own domain and we will take care of the registration process for you. You will first be asked to type in your preferred domain name (e.g. joeshardware.com.). Our search tool will go out to the Internet instantaneously and check to see if that domain is taken. If it is, you will get a message telling you that it is taken. You will then need to choose a different name. Once you have a domain which is not taken, you will proceed on to a registration form that will ask you for your company information. Please note that it may take up to two business days for your registration to be processed. Your customers will not be able to access your website during this period. The cost of the domain will be $15.95 per year for the number of years you choose.

2)

Transfer a domain: If you have an existing domain name that you want to use for your Sites In A Click site, you need to transfer the domain using this function. Enter the domain you wish to transfer. To process the transfer you will be asked to fill out an online form that asks for your company information. There will be a one-time fee of $15.95 to transfer the domain for your new site. As part of the transfer process, the length of your domain registration will be extended by one year.

3)

Host my site without a domain: This option allows you to host your website without having your own domain name. Instead you will choose a login that you will use to log in to Sites In A Click. This login will also be used in your URL (i.e. web address). For example, if your login is jonsmithco, your URL would be http://biz.sitesinaclick.com/jonsmithco.   Top

What if I can't find a domain name that isn't already in use?

Sometimes it is hard to find a unique domain name that is not taken. You can still, however, proceed with the signup process and host your site without a domain until you find a domain name that is not taken. Later you will be able to add your own domain name using the Add A Domain function under the Site Manager.   Top

I just signed up for a domain, so why do I get an error when I try to browse to my website?

Domain registrations may take up to two days to be completed. Until that time, you can access your website using an alternative URL of http://biz.sitesinaclick.com/ followed by your Sites In A Click login. For example, if your login is jonsmithco, your alternative URL would be http://biz.sitesinaclick.com/jonsmithco.    Top

  • Visa
  • MasterCard

So, after receiving the order information, it is your responsibility to charge the customer's credit card for the amount of the order. Therefore, your business will need to be equipped to handle processing of credit card payments (using a merchant account, etc).

If you don't already have a merchant account, Sites In A Click has partnered with ProPay to provide our customers with an easy-to-use credit card processing solution. ProPay is a cost-effective alternative to traditional merchant account offerings providing individuals and small businesses the ability to process credit cards. ProPay gives you the ability to process Visa, MasterCard and Discover. For more information, or to signup for a ProPay account, visit www.propay.com.    Top

How do I receive orders?

The order information will be emailed to you.

If the order was paid for with a credit card, Sites In A Click will email the order to the email address you specify when setting up your shopping cart. The email will contain the items and quantities ordered, the bill-to and ship-to addresses, shipping and tax amounts charged, and any other information needed to complete the order. In addition, there will be a link to a web page that will allow you to view the credit card information used to pay for the order. This web page is hosted on a secure server that will provide access to the data only across a secure connection, and only after multiple security checks have been completed. As part of this security check process, you will need to enter your Sites In A Click password before being able to view credit card data for orders placed from your shopping cart.

If the order was paid for using PayPal, you will receive an email from PayPal containing the order information.   Top

Why not send the customer credit card data via email?

The security of confidential information, such as the credit card used to place orders, is of the utmost importance to Sites In A Click. Sending such confidential information via email is inherently insecure, unless the data is encrypted. However, sending encrypted email would require that all of our Sites In A Click users have special software installed on their computers in order to read the encrypted email. This would require extra charges and inconvenience for our customers. Instead of this, Sites In A Click has developed a simpler, yet more secure method for storage and retrieval of credit card data for orders. The credit card data can only be viewed on a secure web page after multiple security checks, including the entry of your Sites In A Click password, have been completed.   Top

Is the customer credit card data secure?

Sites In A Click takes your data security very seriously. We use 128 bit keys to provide the kind of web security all customers should demand from Internet hosting companies. All credit card information is securely transmitted to us. Unlike many of our competitors, once we receive financial information, we encrypt it again with even tougher encryption just to make sure that your information stays secure. Our Internet servers also include several other mechanisms to protect you and your website even further. We also automatically audit all our servers on regular intervals.   Top

How are taxes handled?

The Sites In A Click shopping cart setup process allows you to specify in which states you are responsible for collecting sales tax. Any customers placing orders to be shipped to those states will be charged sales tax at the rate applicable for the ship-to zip code. The Sites In A Click shopping cart software will automatically calculate the sales tax that is applicable to that zip code.

(Note: This only applies to orders paid for using credit cards. If an order is paid for using PayPal, PayPal will calculate the taxes on the order using the tax information setup in your PayPal account.)    Top

How are shipping charges handled?

The Sites In A Click shopping cart will automatically calculate shipping charges based on the shipping options you specify when setting up your cart. There are three separate types of shipping charges that could be used:

  • Per Order Charge
  • Per Item Charge
  • Custom Shipping Charges by Weight or Price

Each of these three types is independent of the others and may be used in any combination (or not at all if you never wanted to charge for shipping). For example, you could charge only a per order charge. Alternately, you could charge a per order charge, a per item charge, and a custom shipping charge. Again, any combination of the three types may be selected.

Shipping charges will apply to the order as a whole. It is not possible to have shipping charges that apply to only certain items within an order.

(Note: This only applies to orders paid for using credit cards. If an order is paid for using PayPal, PayPal will calculate the shipping on the order using the shipping information setup in your PayPal account.)    Top

How is PayPal integrated with the Sites In A Click Shopping Cart?

PayPal can be selected as a method of receiving payment for orders placed through a Sites In A Click shopping cart. In order to choose to receive payments using PayPal, you will need to already have an account setup with PayPal. You will then need to enter the email address used for your PayPal account on the Setup screen in the Cart Manager.

If you have selected to receive payments using either credit cards or PayPal, the shopper will choose which of those two methods to use for payment.

When a shopper chooses to pay for an order using PayPal, the checkout process will take them to the standard PayPal payment web page, where they can either setup a new PayPal account or pay using an existing PayPal account. After paying using PayPal, the shopper will be returned to the homepage of your Sites In A Click site.

When a shopper pays with PayPal, the entire checkout process happens on the PayPal website. In addition, all shipping and tax calculations are handled by PayPal, regardless of what is setup within Sites In A Click for shipping and tax calculations. Also, the emails notifying you and the customer of the order will come from PayPal instead of from Sites In A Click.   Top
